Boat Show — Day One

April 16, 2011

So much fun at the  show today. Merileigh took care of the kids (awesome!) while we went on our annual date. We picked up our life raft, wind vane, epirb, foulies, keel cooler, and met our New England Ropes contact. Friends are coming over in 10 for margaritas so I’ll leave you with the photos. We’re headed back tomorrow with the kids in tow.

Okay, now I’m officially onboard for this adventure. I’ve been excited about the various parts — looking at boats online with you, reading engine specs, daydreaming through the Cruising World articles, thinking of the enormous challenge of putting all those parts together — but seeing you guys at the boat show getting the last few bits of gear (you look great in your foulies, Vic) and seeing how well the kids have taken to the sea and their new life (those beautiful pics), I’ve moved to a new dimension of connection to your adventure. From this point on I will be with you all the way (in my mind at least) — a “bowspirit”.

      Awesome! Thanks dad!
The next step in my world domination plan is to get you to set up a gravatar so you don’t look like the spagetti monster when you comment 🙂

…oh shoot, now the cat’s out of the bag.

“Gravatar” — is that an obese avatar?

Oh dear, my boyfriend and I also went to Strictly Sail this year in Oakland, but since we’re both broke, it was mostly just fuel for the sailing-dream fire. Hopefully some day (soon) we will have a reason to go besides to chat enviously with far more seasoned cruisers than us. Cheers!

We went 10 Strictly Sails for just that reason before we finally had cause to actually buy stuff. Every year I would get charged up for all the saving or paying off debt that we were going to have to do. It was so awesome to see the leathery skin and giant smiles of the salty sailors and to see photos from their trips to paradise.

Also, it sounds like you and your bf are planing to do this on a shoestring and do it soon. I have tons of respect for that (see http://www.bamboleirosailing.com/). It may be that you never go to a boat show to buy, I might even hope (for your sake) that you don’t have to 🙂
