Dyneema® Experience Team

You can help us to realize this dream. Read on to learn how…

is a gell spun synthetic fiber that combines high strength with increadible softness and lightness. Along with it’s chief competitor (Spectra) these Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) fibers have been the de-facto standard for all performance racing and for years. Used for sailmaking and running (sheets, halyards, control lines) rigging, the high strength lightweight, low creep, low stretch fibers provide outstanding performance. Recently riggers have been experimenting with UHMwPEs for standing (shrouds, stays, lifelines, etc) rigging as well.

Last month I found out that DSM Dyneema has undertaken a bold experiment. In an effort to draw social media attention to their product line they have offered to completely refit the on the 40 boats that gather the most social media support.

With our upcoming trip, one of the compromises we had to make was to continue to use the 5 year old running rigging (Spectra) that came with the boat. It all appears to be in serviceable shape, but will certainly need to be replaced before we complete our circumnavigation. If we can secure a spot on the Dyneema Experience 2011, this major expense will be eliminated rather than just deferred.

So here’s your chance to support Team Convivia as we prepare to realize our dream.
